Mexico can be a very exotic and a very hot place. Perhaps that’s why the Xoloitzcuintli has no hair, to be cool. The breed's name is a combination of two Aztec words. "Xolotl" was one of the Aztec gods and "itzcuintli" means dog. There’s even a german name for this dog, Mexikanischer Nackthund.
In doing some research on these dogs, I have read over a hundred descriptions, many that one would expect a dog owner to give:
Xolos are very loving and affectionate… love to snuggle with their favorite person...extremely intelligent... curious… independent thinkers… still primitive… playful… very expressive... super companions for those who want a devoted dog…
But nowhere could I find the description “incestuous homosexual” … although I happened to have encountered just such a pair, father and son, and in this case, the father on the receiving end at a friend’s house in a posh district of Mexico City.
A few years ago I read about a new store in Manhattan where one can only buy gay dogs. The reasons for the existence of this store were many, and often humorous. One of the main reasons was that of course some gay men like having gay dogs. Another reason was to protect these dogs and find them good understanding homes.
Just imagine a nice conservative couple on the Upper East Side going to visit friends and taking their new male dog along, only to be totally embarrassed by having their new dog chasing their friends’ male dog around the room trying to mount him. Hopefully they haven’t thrown away the receipt and they can take it back. But how can you prove that a gay dog is actually defective?
Another side of the story is that when some people discover their dog’s homosexuality, or in many cases simple bisexuality, they begin to mistreat their dogs, and even abandon them. So this store was created to take in these dogs to protect them. And being that this is New York City, the capital of the capitalist world, premium prices are charged for these specialty pets, or friends as I prefer to call them.

Mexiko kann sehr exotisch und sehr heiß sein. Vielleicht ist das der Grund, dass der Xoloitzcuintli keine Haare hat, um sich abzukühlen. "Xolotl" war ein aztekischer Gott und "itzcuintli" heißt Hund. Es gibt sogar einen deutschen Namen für diesen Hund: Mexikanischer Nackthund.
Bei meiner Recherche in Bezug auf diese Hunde habe ich über einhundert Beschreibungen gelesen, viele davon klangen wie das, was man von einem Hundebesitzer erwarten würde:
Xolos sind sehr liebevoll und zärtlich ... kuscheln gern mit ihrer liebsten Person … extrem intelligent … neugierig … unabhängige Denker … noch primitiv … verspielt … sehr ausdrucksvoll … super Gefährten für diejenigen, die einen hingebungsvollen Hund wollen.
Nirgendwo las ich allerdings die Beschreibung "inzestuös homosexuell" ... obwohl ich auf gerade solch ein Paar stieß, Vater und Sohn, und in diesem Fall war der Vater der passive, am Haus eines Freundes in einem vornehmen Teil von Mexiko City.
Vor ein paar Jahren las ich etwas über einen neuen Laden in Manhattan, in dem man nur schwule Hunde kaufen konnte. Es gab viele Gründe für die Existenz dieses Ladens, viele davon humoresk. Einer der Hauptgründe war natürlich, dass schwule Männer gern schwule Hunde haben. Ein anderer, diese Hunde zu beschützen und ihnen ein verständnisvolles Zuhause zu bieten.
Man stelle sich einfach ein nettes konservatives Paar aus der Upper East Side vor, das mit seinem neuen Rüden Freunde besucht, nur um dann vor Peinlichkeit im Erdboden zu versinken, weil sein Hund den Rüden seiner Freunde durchs Zimmer jagt, in der Hoffnung, ihn zu besteigen. Hoffentlich hat das Paar die Quittung nicht weggeworfen und kann ihn umtauschen. Wie kann es allerdings beweisen, dass ein schwuler Hund minderwertig ist?
Ein anderer Aspekt ist, dass manche Leute, wenn sie die Homosexualität, oder in vielen Fällen einfach Bisexualität, ihrer Hunde feststellen, beginnen, ihre Hunde zu misshandeln oder sogar auszusetzen. Also wurde dieser Laden ins Leben gerufen, um diese Hunde aufzunehmen und zu beschützen. Und da es New York City ist, die Hauptstadt der kapitalistischen Welt, werden Toppreise berechnet für diese besonderen Haustiere, oder Freunde, wie ich sie lieber nenne.
